The cultural moment we live in has claimed the word “love” to mean something other than the biblical definitions. Love is not unconditional acceptance of sinful behaviors in search of honoring one’s “truth.” Love is based on an objective standard of righteousness given to us by a holy Creator. It is the truthful definitions of love that must guide our thoughts, behaviors, and responses to others. If we do not have a right concept and definition of love in all its forms, we cannot love properly.

“Loving one another is based on truth” implies that everything that works in the kingdom works by love. E.g. faith, prayer, etc. works by love, because God is love and as children of God, our sincerity of our love for God inspires our ways of life in righteousness.

This is so important because we need to care for the soul of our neighbor. Especially in the world we are in today, so many children and adults are hearing that their “feelings are valid” and what they experience is true. Oftentimes, I can over-react and 10 minutes later, realize that my feelings were fleeting and hope is not lost. As Christian educators, we have to live by what the Bible tells us is true. I think a lot about Ephesians 6:14, “Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth…” and usually if I do not spend time in Scripture, I am putting on worldly truth and not God’s truth. We need to love one another based on what God has spoken as true.

“Loving one another is based on truth” because it comes directly from the scripture. The Word that God gave us is complete truth. It’s important to understand this because what it says in the Bible is truth and Christians need to follow and teach this.

Love comes from God and God is love. If the Bible is truth then love is based on that truth. Showing that to our students can inspire them to lead kinder, more loving lives.
