What does Dr. Black mean when she says the Christian school is important in raising a generation that is more than just competent cognitively?

Dr. Black is trying to explain that students need to also understand their purpose in life. Understanding the world around them and how it operates is great knowledge, but knowing how to navigate that world and what their purpose is is even more important. All humans have a purpose and a calling in this life, and Christian schools have a responsibility to help students realize this.

We want to prepare our students academically but we also want to prepare them spiritually.

We must prepare them to compare and contrast ideas from the world with Bible truth and critically think through what they encounter AND help them walk closely with God to hear His voice and calling on their life. God has a place for them to bring Him glory in this world, whether it be full-time ministry or regular vocation.

She wants us prepare students for their calling here on earth. In turn we also want to prepare them for eternity. Both of these preparations are more important than cognitive competency. Now, education is important for many in their calling, but preparing littles towards living a meaningful life and finding wisdom within the word is the point. Our faith carries us through everything in life.

We, as Christian educators, have an important role to partner with parents in preparing their children both academically and spiritually. We need to help prepare them for things here on Earth, but also for eternity. We need to help our students understand that they matter and how they use their time on Earth matters. We need to use whatever time we are given here on Earth to make difference.
