What does Dr. Black mean when she says the Christian school is important in raising a generation that is more than just competent cognitively?

It’s very important now a days to have a complete and competent education, but as Christian educators, we must be always looking for the opportunity to remind our students about our eternal life. This is not all, for those who have put their trust in Christ, we will have a party in heaven, :o) and we will be complete in Him at last.

It’s good that we teach students to compare and contrast in their academics, but it’s also important that we teach our students that God is preparing us for eternity. This includes students deciding on careers that will promote the kingdom of God.

We don’t just want students to be able to define who God is, like a fact. We want to raise students to know God personally, to develop a relationship with Him and to communicate with Him through prayer and the reading of the Bible, not just as a classroom methodology, but as a part of life.

We want students to be prepared for their future on earth, but also their eternal future. On earth, it is important that they are prepared to have a career, but the work world is shifting and they need to be able to not only be critical thinkers, but also be willing to change and learn new things along the way. The most important thing is for each person to be able to be still and hear the voice of God. A good resource for this is by Mark Virkler. He teaches on the many ways that we can “hear” from God.

Dr. Black stated, “It’s so that God will have men and women who are in every discipline of life, every discipline of life, making a difference because of their belief in Jesus.” We are not only preparing them to go out into the world to have earthly success, but also to be living testimonies of our God’s love for everyone in their fields.
