I believe he meant that it all should start with knowing/teaching God’s word.

I am honestly a bit confused on this statement. I just think it meant that we need to learn the word given in the Bible as the starting point and go from there. Once we know the Bible then we are able to teach it and integrate it into our daily lives and teachings.

I believe you got this right. This approach wasn’t about integrating Christianity into the curriculum, but rather about gaining a deeper understanding of God’s Word and learning how to apply that knowledge practically. That way, we can build our love for God and apply it effectively in life.

When Dr. Teague said “Integration was never the legitimate starting point for a godly pedagogy” I believe he meant that before we can effectively integrate Biblical teaching into our teaching, we must have let the Bible renew and change our lives and mindsets. We must have first transformed our personal lives and aligned our hearts and minds with God’s desires before we can begin effectively integrating the Bible into our lessons and teachings.

You have to infuse the lesson with God’s Word. It cannot be separated from the subject you are teaching.

When developing an approach to teaching in the Christian Schools, the integration of God’s Word is not the beginning or starting point for the work that needs to be accomplished. It should be the knowledge of God’s Word and the careful reasoned application of that knowledge to learning and life. We cannot just pull scripture passages and ideas from God’s Word and insert it into the curriculum standards that are being taught, but there should be intentional application of the knowledge of God’s Word that is purposeful in its application to the daily growth of a child’s mind, body, and soul for the life they need to live on earth.
