What does the lecturer mean when she says you are here to educate your students for eternity?

Yes, our academic subjects are important to teach, but more importantly is to teach to each student’s soul and to help them understand who they are in Christ. What good is it for them to be a straight A student and excel in all areas of academics but if they don’t have a firm understanding of who they are in Christ, that they are a child of God and are in need of a savior. Through repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ is the one and only way to eternal life.

Like the lecturer said, “we are made as eternal beings.” It’s quite incredible that we were created to enjoy more than this life has to offer. God, in his grace and mercy, gave us the gift of eternal life if we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Our current life on Earth has a distinct purpose, to glorify God so that we can enjoy Him FOREVER. As I educate my students, it’s crucial that I make this purpose evident to them.

I think the lecturer meant that while we are here to teach the kids about math, english, history, etc., our main focus should be pouring God’s word into them. Helping them build a strong foundation in Christ is much more important for their lives and will ensure they make it to heaven to have eternal life.

Eternity is the end goal. Having this in proper perspective should direct our teaching. It gives us a sense of urgency. Every moment counts because people’s lives at stake.

The message I deliver to the students through lecture, facial expression, actions, and etc affects the students’ journey of meeting or following Jesus.
