As Christian educators, we understand that we do not exist merely to convey information. We are dealing with matters that have eternal ramifications. The way we teach, interact with students, carry ourselves, interacting with parents, or work with our colleagues all carry eternal weight. As Christian educators, we are in the business of influencing students to follow Jesus. In doing so, we are pointing them toward everlasting and abundant life in Christ. Our primary role, regardless of subject matter, is to teach about the Kingdom of God.

Like so many here have said, we are teaching our students about who God is. This is the most fundamental knowledge they can ever gain. Yes, we teach them all the academic subjects, but they are means to an end: knowing and loving God.

I believe that she means that God has created us to be or as eternal beings. That God’s ultimate purpose for us is to enjoy eternity with Him. Everything else that we teach is a bonus. Eternity is fundamental.

We are here to educate students on who God is, what He’s done and will do, and how to follow God’s word throughout their lives, not just while they are in our classrooms. Instilling this in them will help guide them to salvation so they can spend forever with Him in Heaven after their lives here on earth are finished.

We are working to prepare students for an eternity with God, to do this, we have to help them know God in the here and now.
