To me, educating my students for eternity means I am showing them what their eternity will be. Where will they live in their eternal home? If I put my philosophy and Biblical knowledge to work and educate my students about God, heaven, and the sacrifice Jesus made, I am showing them about eternity. Planting a seed can largely impact a child’s future. Showing them the way to accept Jesus as their savior and how to teach others about Jesus IS ETERNITY.

We are eternal beings; a holistic education addresses both the temporal and the eternal. In that way, we are able to educate students in meaningful ways that will last forever.

Yes, our academic subjects are important to teach, but more importantly is to teach to each student’s soul and to help them understand who they are in Christ. What good is it for them to be a straight A student and excel in all areas of academics but if they don’t have a firm understanding of who they are in Christ, that they are a child of God and are in need of a savior. Through repentance and acceptance of Jesus Christ is the one and only way to eternal life.

Like the lecturer said, “we are made as eternal beings.” It’s quite incredible that we were created to enjoy more than this life has to offer. God, in his grace and mercy, gave us the gift of eternal life if we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Our current life on Earth has a distinct purpose, to glorify God so that we can enjoy Him FOREVER. As I educate my students, it’s crucial that I make this purpose evident to them.

I think the lecturer meant that while we are here to teach the kids about math, english, history, etc., our main focus should be pouring God’s word into them. Helping them build a strong foundation in Christ is much more important for their lives and will ensure they make it to heaven to have eternal life.
