If my life philosophy is Christian, then I know that I am an eternal being. My utmost goal is not to teach Spanish, but to teach in such a way that I model Christ and prepare the hearts of my students to accept Christ.

Educational disciplines help us navigate life here on earth, but helping those we teach understand the “big questions of life” have eternal significance. There is no profit in educating students to gain the whole world if they lose their souls (Mark 8:36).

It’s easy to focus on the daily struggles and conflicts between teacher and student, or student to student. Keep in mind always the end goal. The children are eternal creatures who were made for eternal life in God’s presence. All we do should focus on the end game, preparing ourselves (mind and spirit) for life in community with God an each other.

Educating our students for eternity means that we have to teach our students to understand that this life on earth is temporary. We must live a meaningful life to serve God and others that will carry us into eternity. We must not get sucked into thoughts and actions that are of this world, but rather keep our eyes on the Lord.

We are here to educate our students to be successful in the world, but he ultimate goal is to point them to God. We can equip them to live in this world, but this world is not our eternal home.
