My experiences in the local church have by and large been positive. I have moved with the military several times and been an active and integral part of three churches. I have only had a leadership role in my current church. I have found it helpful to remember that love covers multitudes of faults, mine and others.

I have had fantastic experiences with church attendance. The communities I have joined have been loving and challenging. They have understood what it means to fellowship together. A couple of my past churches would have done better to have their eyes more set to how they could help their community. The church I’m at currently does a great job of building up internally and working externally.

As a child in a Southern Baptist Church, I was disturbed by the constant reminder of “burning in hell.” There was a great deal of fear in the services. I also noticed a tremendous amount of hypocrisy among members who did not walk the walk of what they espoused. I grew disenchanted and left the church altogether for fifty years, yes, fifty years. I am back again as a confirmed Episcopalian. I am new to this religion so I am hopeful that I can become positively involved and make positive contributions.

I have been blessed with a beautiful church community and have been greatly edified being a part.
