What has been your past experience in local church attendance? Explain the positive and the negative.

I have a couple of past experiences with local church attendance. I went to a smaller church where people knew if we were gone (especially being in leadership) so sometimes it was nice to have people know us and check on us, but others it felt like it was a burden when we weren’t there or there were speculations that may come about when not being there and everyone knows. However, at the church we are at now, it is just big enough to where if we are gone it’s not a huge hindrance, but people genuinely reach out in concern to check on us.

In my elementary years, we were CEO attenders. We would attend church on every major Holiday (Christmas, Easter, and other Holidays). The positive is that I was hearing the Gospel message and being drawn by the Holy Spirit. The Negative is that was the only time we went and there wasn’t any consistency. In Middle school and High school, I attended with my friends to play sports more consistent. God’s Word was penetrating my heart, and I was drawn to attend more. We were encouraging each other to come and bring new friends. Now as an adult with children and grandchildren, it has become a way of life to grow and serve with others along our journey.

I have been going to church for about seven years now. The first three I would only go when it was convenient for me. The last four I have attended regularly although trying to find my faith family has been a struggle until recently. Once I made the decision th hang in there and search for a place I felt was right for me, the pieces fell into place.

I’ve been involved in the church since childhood. I have seen the beauty of the body in unity and I’ve also seen the divided body because of people’s sin. But the beauty of the Church and being part of the body is that you can embody grace & truth like Jesus and remind yourself and others that the Church is meant for the sick — it’s not for the healthy, but the one’s who need a doctor. It’s a hospital, not a hotel.

My experience has been that church is full of people. SO there can be lots of challenges. However, God’s love is there to bind our hearts as one.
