Leadership is marked by vision for the future and willingness to guide people towards that future. It’s a heads up mentality.

Management is marked by making sure that tasks at hand get done efficiently, effectively, and safely. But there’s no vision for what’s next, just a heads down mentality.

Leadership takes you someplace, and management helps us do what we are supposed to do when we get there. Many organizations are over managed and under led. The environments are changing, but no one thinking as a leader to change where they are going.

Leadership takes us to new heights, to new ground, to new improvements, while management just helps us to do what we need to do in the same place for the time being.

Leadership is taking someone to a new place. Management is making sure that everyone is doing what they have been asked/directed to do.
