Leadership takes us someplace; management helps us do what we’re supposed to do while we are in that place.

Leaders move people on managers manage people in a certain situation not training them to move on

Management is typically about designing or at least defining a process and then asking others to follow it. You may have to show them how to do it, evaluate them, and hold them accountable. Leadership is more about inspiring others to design or define a process and figure out how to follow it. Leaders allow others to take initiative and encourages them when things go well and gives positive constructive criticism when they don’t. The difference can be very subtle or very obvious. People follow managers because they have to…people follow leaders because they want to. Manager isn’t a bad term, it just doesn’t carry the inspiration piece that I would reserve for leaders.

Management helps people do what they are supposed to be doing, whereas leadership helps people get to a better place.

Leadership takes us somewhere, management helps us do the job when we get there.
