To me, managing just means overseeing a person or group of people. Leadership takes it a step further and it’s managing in a way that betters the group or leads them to a specific goal/place.

Leadership takes us someplace. Meanwhile, management helps us do what we’re supposed to do while in that particular place.

Management is lording over someone/a group and just giving directives. A better word is overseeing. Leadership is taking the person/group through, supporting along the way, and continuing to support them in their growth.

The difference between leadership and management to me is that management is more of a hands off while leadership is very much hands on shoulder to shoulder with those you are intending to lead while management is very hands off and directing people without intentionality or any form of relationship building.
