What is the difference between leadership and management?

Management is oversight, leadership is taking people somewhere.

Leadership is actively moving towards a goal or destination that one must be able to adapt as variables change to keep moving forward. Leadership directs management in being able to oversee the work to be done to reach the goals set in place. In order to do both effectively there must be open communication between the two channels. Management follows leadership’s directives and oversees the community of people to guide them in the tasks needed to get the work done.

Management helps people to do what they are supposed to do where they’re at. Leadership brings people some place else.

The lesson stated that leadership takes us some place and management helps us do what we need to do while we are in that place.

Leadership is showing by example.
Management is overseeing others.
