Managers can be leaders, but it is not necessary for them to be leaders. Managers are put in place to supervise processes, but leaders are individuals who motivate others into achieving their goals. Leaders value terms such as, empowerment, motivation, and encouragement. Mangers on the other hand, just require the necessary skills and abilities to get the job done.

Leadership takes people to a new place. Management merely assigns tasks and makes sure that people do what they are supposed to do in this current place.

They are different in that leadership is taking someone or a group of people to a certain place. Management is less focused and does not have in mind where they want to take people.

Leadership takes people to where they are better and finds ways to get the best of them in the process.

Management does not always take into account people skills, nor does it focus on getting people to be the best person or a team that they can be.
