I like what Dr. Buzzell pointed out about that God could not lie about who He was. Jesus being God let them know the truth that He was God in the flesh.

Jesus’ claim to be God HAD to happen and HAD to be true in order to fulfill the Old Testament prophecies. The Messiah had to come from a virgin, had to be born in Bethlehem, and had to be fully man and fully God. Only a perfectly sinless sacrifice could be given for our sins, and Christ therefore had to be fully God in order to possess no sin.

He is God and therefore, can be the one to bridge the chasm we had to get to God. He was and is perfect and we need a perfect sacrifice.

He is God and therefore can bring us back into right relationship with God because only God can do that.

Jesus is God – he tells his disciples that if they know Him and follow Him, then they will know God, for Him and God are the same. It’s very hard to wrap one’s human mind around this concept. They are together as one, and through Jesus’ sacrifice, we are saved.
