In the OT, the priests sacrificed lambs for the forgiveness of sins. This was done annually for each family. The idea is the blood atones. In Jesus we have the Paschal Lamb. For the sin to be forgiven for all time, the lamb had to be without blemish, or sin. Only God could live a life unblemished by sin, and therefore be sacrificed for the sin of mankind.

Without Jesus claiming to be God, there would be zero meaning to our lives.

If He s only human, then his death did not cleanse us of our sins.

Jesus’s humility about His deity. His actions demonstrated His deity and Jesus claims affirm His deity. Jesus was fully God and fully man.
