For me, it’s the fear of vulnerability, and others’ vulnerability. The feeling that I’m not enough to make any significant impact, or that I will say the wrong thing in response.

I think what mostly keeps me from being more curious about another person’s reality is when I quickly “diagnose” the problem and move to solutions instead of continuing with the process of being curious and of letting the Spirit determine the best way forward. When this happens, I shut down the process and keep the Spirit mostly out of the conversation.

I am thinking of current situations where I want to run. Bottom line is inadequacy. Fear of offending them. Fear of boundaries. Being tired or strapped for time and feeling trapped while someone is monologuing.

Apathy, film over His Spirit, sometimes a genuine tiredness that I need to trust into that He is in control (so I don’t try and manage it from my own energy, and also trust that He also has breaks for us too).

I think for years, prior to begining to ” alongside” sisters in my fellowship, I believed I truly had nothing, not even empowered by The Holy Spirit,” to offer, although I desperately wanted to and felt the Lord repeatedly bring me into others lives to do this work. I would get scared and back off because I believed satan’s lie, and the lies of others, that “you can’t do that you don’t have a degree, what do you know.” But longed to be used of God in way. I am incredibly blessed to say that God has done much healing within and brought loving Pastor’s who saw beyond my own hurt to what God saw, they had vision. They “stirred me on,” they “taught me and encouraged me,” and now by God’s Spirit, I am more curious and love walking the journey with others to find their own freedoms in Christ. I so want to be even more curious now that I am learning new depth with Dr. Crabb and pray that God will continue to open up my Spirit freely to His Spirit, so I can then be that open with those He places in my life to be curious.
