What kind of mission work have your students been involved in? How have you seen it impact them?

They have worked with outreach ministries, they have worked with troubled children, they have worked with “under-privileged” children. They seem to grow in appreciation for what they have an they grow closer together as a group.

Our school does several different things throughout the year to help people in need. We have a toy drive and food drive. This last year my course did the Adopt-an-Airman program because we are close to an Air Force base. The kids packed bags and wrote cards for single airman who couldn’t go home from Christmas. The kids loved it!

Our students serve in their local churches and through school. They do trips to different countries to provide for needs, as well as donate to local pregnancy centers and food banks.

Years ago we made cards at Easter and took them to an Adult Care Center. We sang to them and the children were able to pass out their cards. It was a sweet time, but the children did not feel as connected to the people as the cards had to be “generic.” We changed a couple of years ago to helping pack boxes for a local missionary heading out of the country to teach boys and girls about Jesus. She needed water bottles as the area where she was going had a hard time gathering water and the water bottles would be like gold to the children. We were able to package a lot of boxes for her to ship so they would arrive by her time to get to the country. That was more hands-on and the children loved being a part of something bigger than themselves.

We have done several things school-wide – such as Operation Christmas Child. Our Spanish teacher holds a Los Posadas Christmas Market every year. Students from all grades make crafts, baked goods, artwork, etc. to sell at the market. The proceeds go to the church we lease space from. A few of our high school students are involved in Equine Therapy. Some help with childcare at Bible studies.
