Each Spring a week is given to serving either the community at large, or alongside a missionary in their ministry endeavors. The impact for some students is truly life changing, as they are stretched to serve someone other than themselves.

My students have been involved in a few different activities which helps teach them to take care of others. One of the activities is going out and raising money /food To help the food pantry. They bring the food/money to chapel and then they box it all up and take it over to FAM (family assistance ministries) One of the other activities that I have done with my kindergarten course is we make cards for them on Veterans Day, or we make cards for different units that are deploying. This is an area where I was truly blessed and having parents that have taught me from the time I was a small child to be a good disciple. As a child I can remember serving the homeless purchasing socks underwear and T-shirts and delivering them to the parks where the homeless people lived. Because of my upbringing IM teaching my son the same way my parents taught me, We help out at the food pantry, we pass out poinsettias to the shut ends along with cards and this next year we are going to volunteer at habitat for humanity to help build and repair homes. I feel this truly is a blessing where we get to teach these children how to bless others.

Every grade level at my school donated food at Thanksgiving and Christmas to make baskets for families in our community. We also participate in collecting items for Samaritan’s Purse.

Students at each grade level participate in at least one major mission project each year at our school. In addition, high school students complete “volunteer” hours in their churches and community. School-wide projects include projects like collecting coats, toys, shoes, Thanksgiving meals, etc. for those in need. The entire school participates in fund-raising for a group of high school students who go on a mission trip to Central America in the spring. Students are trained to support CEF ministries, and volunteers work with that ministry each fall at the state fair. We also participate in collecting shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse. The mission work that seems to make the most difference involves serving people and getting to know those they are serving. Collecting items and money is important, but the impact on students seems less. Students who get the “missions bug” and who participate in more mission trips are often the students in whom we see selfless, maturing faith.
