What kind of mission work have your students been involved in? How have you seen it impact them?

The top example that comes to my mind was from last school year. Our students worked together, K-12, to collect items for an Indian reservation in South Dakota. They learned about the tribe and grew in understanding for the needs they faced, especially during the harsh plain’s winters. This taught our kids to have compassion on those outside of their personal circles.

There is a local program where the homeless and low-income are fed and given groceries. This has given opportunities for my students to have compassion for others and appreciation for what they have.

During the school year we have multiple opportunities for mission work. From sock drives for the local homeless shelter to can food donation to the local food bank. Our school is actively teaching the students to help others.

We have done the shoe box project, our students have done street ministry (10-12’s), our grade 12’s do a missions trip every year, and prior to COVID, we helped the local seniors and did a veterans project. Where the kids are hands on, it impacts them when they see results/the impact they have on others.

Last year we made boxes as part of Operation Christmas Child to send to kids in need around the world. It was a great experience and at my school we will do it again this year.
