In the Pre-Covid days, we did a variety of mission work. For younger students it was serving others on campus. They make cards, pick up trash, decorate, etc. For older student, they do community service at local ministries and social services. In our high school students have a week without walls where they go to various locations to serve in many different ministries. Our students go on trips to many different countries around Singapore. The students love and look forward to it. This year we were innovative to find a variety of ways for the students to serve locally. The high school students even helped with the elementary school’s Spiritual Emphasis Week. It was so fun to see them in action. These events have a big impact on our school and the students. Students make friends across the divisions. The older students are often so patient with the younger ones. And the students remember when they go and serve others.

My students made Christmas cards for the nursing facilites. I explained to them how Covid had prevented some from seeing their family members for quite some time. They drew pictures and wrote thoughtful messages. I also had a middle school course that made clay doves for themselves and for patients at nursing facilities. I explained that we wanted to encourage them with a small gift. Some students put lots of time in the project and were excited to give to others.

Most recently my students have been involved in mission work in Alaska. Every year the senior course takes a trip to Alaska to work with a camp that serves the local community. This trip has made an impact on them in a couple of ways. First, it helps the students see God at work in the world and gives them a perspective on how big God is. Secondly, it relationally draws the students closer together and helps establish relationships that can help them grow in Christ.

Our school participates in Operation Christmas Child. Each course puts together boxes and students can also do their own box. With my course, I have each student sign up to bring an item to put into our box and the kids really enjoy it. They get so excited thinking about what this other child they don’t even know might want. The enjoy buying and packing and writing a note to the child.

My school does several community projects. They involve all grade levels preschool to 12th grade. This year is was different, however they did manage to do some modified community projects. Our school packs and delivered meals to the Rescue Mission. They raise money for Baby Bottle Campaign. The courses pick a missionary to pray over and send letters of encouragement. The school makes sure the students get updates on how they helped with the meals, money, and etc. The students get so excited to here how their little actions impact others lives for the better. My own children will get the car after school about the explode with excitement over what was accomplished through God. It helps the students have a heart for the community.
