What kind of mission work have your students been involved in? How have you seen it impact them?

Most recently, I took a group of 10 students to New York City where we partnered with a church plant for a few days. We also did some fun activities. Just as Dr. Black shared about her granddaughter’s experience, our student talked about our mission work 10x more than about our sightseeing.

Our students do lots of mission work. We go help feed the homeless, go built houses and churches out of town, and collect tons of clothes and toiletries for the people in our area. The students love helping others and beam with pride after they do it.

My adult students spend a lot of time uncovering the work of God in their lives, exploring and penning their stories for the purposes of working the mission field within their homes. When I taught in public school, my advisory collaborated to sponsor a child through World Vision. We learned about our child’s region, country, and culture. The children used their gifts and talents to raise awareness about our child’s home country (its needs and treasures) and were able (in one year) to fund his sponsorship for two! It was also incredibly meaningful for the children to consider their heart attitudes in the election of the work we would do and the child we would sponsor. For example, we discussed how perceptions of beauty and worth influence who we choose to help and what that might mean when those we are positioned to help, we also find challenging to love and appreciate.

The students volunteered to help hosting the Christian education conference held in Guatemala (basically a mission trip). This mission trip impacted the students to have a wider world view.

Out students do several community service projects, from road cleanup to stocking the shelves at a local Christian Ministry to help needy families. The students come back revived after completing the needed work.
