That God invited us to foster a deep relationship with Him through prayer. That prayer is not a super-spiritual skill or elite spiritual gift, but is meant for everyone. That if we neglect prayer, we forfeit the possibility of genuine blessings. That we ought to pray proactively, as a “first resort.” And that even throughout much unanswered prayer, God is doing a wonderful work within us. Lastly, I really loved the final line in William Cowper’s poem: “Restraining prayer, we cease to fight; prayer makes the Christian’s armor bright; and Satan trembles when he sees the weakest saint upon his knees!”
