As a mathematics teacher, teaching students problem solving skills is important. Most students do not like word problems, but you may have heard the quote “Life is a word problem.” Word problems require students to apply the math concepts on a deeper level. I also give projects that require students to use their math skills in solving a real-life problem. This helps them to see the answer to the question “When am I ever going to use this?”

I will use illustrations to help students grasp new concepts we discuss in course. I think that these are helpful to students because connecting mathematics to other concepts will help them see things we discuss in math are connected to other things that they learn and other real life applications.

Group discussions, hands-on activities, talking, and debating while cooperative learning are very effective ways.

I use a lot of student discussion. Teaching Bible courses I find that after we read a passage of Scripture and journal over it there is a huge benefit to circle back around to it later in the week and discuss it as a course.

I think student discussions are super important. They need to talk and process the information themselves and not just be passive listeners!
