I think spending some time looking online would help me know more information about those being persecuted. We had a group of people from our community held hostage when they were serving in another country for a period of time. It was in our local news. It was honestly very scary. Developing compassion for those who persecute Christians is about the only way to help them know the love of God, but it needs to be done in a safe way.

The first thing for the Christian to do is Pray. Only the Lord Jesus can advise what a person can do for other people. A person can most certainly send money or support the mission field. When there is an organization like Samaritan’s Purse to contribute to, the other steps to take could be to research how to help the needy. Jesus is very much aware of each person’s ability to serve and give. Everyday, I get some kind of conviction for the things I failed to do. I also have many opportunities to take action.

I honestly don’t believe I need to look any further then what’s around me to see how Christians are suffering right now. With the way our social atmosphere has changed here in a liberal state, which the Government is pushing things that are against our values, and forcing us to pay taxes on things that are an abomination and telling us Christians that we’re the problem. On the other hand I don’t have to put my life on the line yet but this may happen in the next few years if we believe what Jesus said about the persecution we will go through.

In the digital age we do not have an excuse of igornance – we must actively seek out information about those who are persecuted around the world. Many sites exist to provide information about persecution including: https://www.opendoors.org/en-US/persecution/countries/ , https://erlc.com, https://www.persecution.org just to name a few. Our prayers are powerful, and we can use them to not only ease the suffering of those persecuted, but to change the hearts of those doing the persecuting. The more we know about those who are persecuting, the more we can recognize that they are humans too, worthy of God’s love, and we can earnestly pray for them to find Christ. By treating them with compassion, we witness God’s love to them rather than drive them further from Him.

An organization called CC-SG sends regular updates to me of their work in China. Of course, such accounts have to be generalized to protect the people involved.

Apart from this, I’m going into a country soon to experience for myself what it is like to function as a Christian there. Perhaps I should have some firsthand accounts then.

It is important, but very hard, to develop compassion for those who oppose Christianity, because God loves them too, and because they themselves were blinded by the god of this age and hence deceived to justify themselves for doing such wrongs. After all, Saul was like that, until he was converted and became the apostle Paul.
