I think for a non-christian it is hard to understand that Jesus is THE way THE truth and THE life. That being a “good person” isn’t good enough. that God is so HOLY, that even our good works are like filthy rags to Him.

Of the distinctives mentioned in the lesson, many of the non-believers with whom I share the gospel have a hangup with The Bible and Origins. Many people disregard the Genesis account due to the seeming difference between natural evidence and scripture, but when they read Genesis and see that an omnicient God created man, gave him restrictions, only to have man fall and be removed from Eden, they question the sense and God’s nature. Until they truly understand that this is a way for us to realize that we need a Savior, and Jesus came to do what we never could, they struggle with this concept.

Probably that God has already defined the law. There is no “your truth’ or “my truth”.

I think the concepts of heaven and hell and eternal judgement are probably the least compelling distinctives of a biblical worldview to my non-Christian friends. Many of them find the concept of hell appalling and believe that a loving God would never send human beings to hell. I usually try to answer objections on this matter by gently explaining that God is completely holy (set apart) and 100% good in every way, which means He must judge and destroy everything that is wicked, evil, and sinful, or else He would no longer be good. The judgement and destroying power of a holy God against wickedness, evil, and sin is infinite because His goodness is infinite. Unfortunately for us, because we are sinful, that also means that we will be judged and destroyed in an infinite way, if we were left to our own devices. Fortunately, through repentance, belief, and faith in Christ as our Savior and Lord, we can be reconciled to a holy God and we will have the infinite blessings that Christ deserved.

I think biblical origin is the least compelling to non-monotheistic friends because they seem to base their beliefs in scientific facts. Genesis doesn’t make sense to them and seems more like a fable.

I might try to answer their objections with well known miracles that can’t be ignored or explained by science. I might ask to share my testimony and share times I’ve witnessed things that can only come from God. Then I might explain how easy the most important commandment is to follow. See if they want to try it for a while and meet again to see how that felt.
