I think people are drawn to the book of Revelation because it speaks to the end times. People want to know what is to come and where are we in that prophesied history. People are confused by it because they don’t really understand who God is, who Jesus is, and how the events described relate to the world we currently live in.

It’s exciting to look ahead and wonder how and when this will all take place. It seems supernatural and draws the curious soul to marvel at this coming future. At the same time it draws fear and confusion as to why and what it all means. The value of studying Revelation is that it brings clarity and to why God’s allowing this all to take place and bring awe and apperception to the person the Son Jesus Christ and His role in the Kingdom of God. Jesus is the Alpha and Omega the Beginning and End, the God man Immanuel.

I teach in a non-denominational school, so I hear various reasons why people are drawn to Revelations. Some churches and/or families are drawn to comparing current events and “end of times” beliefs. Others are interested in what the battle of good and evil might bring. I teach English and one of my units uses the Book of Revelations to understand how to read different forms of writing and comprehend the overall meaning. It is a unique book. My senior students are required to read the Bible over one school year and discuss with their fellow students their understanding, points-of-view, and how it effects their biblical worldview; Revelations is one of their favorites to discuss.

People want to know and are drawn to the epic ending of any story or history and the final quarter of a game….same is true with God’s plan…we want to know how it all ends. The book is also confusing, because it uses so much imagery and leaves a lot of mystery and interpretation to it. Important to study because it is God’s word and keeps our focus on Him and what is to come in the final days.

The value in studying it would be the end times. There are signs we should be looking for.
