Why are people drawn to the book of Revelation and confused by it? What might be the value in studying it?

People are drawn to the book of Revelation because it gives us hope for the afterlife. People might be confused by it because they wonder if some of the events that it predicts already took place in the Old Testament.

They are drawn to it because it shows them the future and they can use it to be better followers of Christ and to prepare.

People are drawn to the book of Revelation because it is about what will come in the future and the hope of the New Heavens and New Earth – and the world going back to the way God created it in the beginning, before sin! At the same time, the figurative language means that the book is filled with imagery that needs interpretation. I know some people use Revelation to try and predict when Jesus will return, which is fine for some, but I think the real value in Revelation lies in the fact that some day Jesus will come…and there is great hope and anticipation in that!

I believe people want to know the future, and think that if they can decipher Revelations into telling us the date of Jesus’ return, then they can know where their future stands. the value is not in knowing the future. Instead, it lies within the details and symbolism beyond mans understanding.

Revelation is intriguing but nevertheless confusing. We want to know how the story ends (life) but we don’t truly understand all of the supporting points. Revelation is valued because it gives a foreshadow of the end of times.
