Why are people drawn to the book of Revelation and confused by it? What might be the value in studying it?

It’s a good book but hard to interpret. Because it is speaking about things not of this world. The value of studying it is that we get an idea of what Heaven might be like and also study the end times that might come to pass.

The book of Revelation tells of the return of Jesus which give the believer hope

People are drawn to the book of Revelation because of the ambiguity of what is to come at the end. As believers, we look to the hope that Jesus will carry us until we go home (heaven) and so knowing details of what will take place to get to that point is intriguing. That ambiguity is birthed out of many different imagery and reference pieces that are very unclear and muddy and have to be left up to assumption for the reader.

The greatest value in reading, hearing and taking to heart Revelation is the blessing we receive from it.
<i style=””>Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. (<i style=”font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: inherit;”>Revelation 1:3 <i style=”background-color: var(–bb-content-background-color); font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; color: inherit;”>NIV)
Unfortunately, I don’t think this is why people are drawn to it.
I think the sense of wonder and ‘what would that really look like?’. People spend so much time trying to rationalise the vision so they feel they have some control and ability to either predict or dismiss the possibility. I’ve read articles where they use science to talk about multiple meteors raining down that could cause a rolling cloud of dust that would black out the sky. Others compare the demonic horse army to tanks so they can try to put it in a timeline. All a rationalisation for it to make sense, raising mass confusion and debate.
And I’m very sad to say, that the letters to the churches are often skipped over for the more visually obscure parts. I think there would great value today in teaching the Revelation letters. Though I know of some churches who refuse to teach on Revelation at all so not to ‘confuse the parishioners’.

Because some people believe it has been fulfilled while did not believe in its fulfilment yet. To see the glory and majesty of God and to learn from the seven churches.
