There are so many word pictures which are difficult to understand, which might be interpreted in different ways, but the basic underlying message is that in the end, sin (and the devil) is defeated. The messages to the churches are either encouragement or warnings which the church of today would be wise to heed.

People are drawn to Revelations because of its mystery regarding the return of Christ. People search for meaning and try to tie it to what is going on in our world today. Some want the answer to Christ coming but we can’t know that. Studying Revelations helps us to better understand the prophecy of Jesus.

I think as humans we always want to know what is next. Revelation is the only book of the Bible that tells us what comes next, but I think God knows our hearts so well that he uses the vivid imagery to tell us what is next but not give us the exact plan or exact time and place. As it tells us early in Acts, we are not to know the time or place, just to spend each day preparing as if it is the last. To love people like we are running out of time because we are. But Revelation can be confusing because we have to know what it meant for them to understand what it means to us. If we take Revelation out of context that can be extremely damaging.

Revelation is a book about end times and it tech us about the end time and glorious victory. The story is told in rich language and not always easy to understand the dreams and prophesy, but we must study the prophecies of the old testament to be able to have a better understanding. It is told in stories with dreams and visions. Yet, understanding end times clears up a lot of questions. It helps us see hope in the end times and know that God will overcome everything on this earth through His son Jesus.

People are drawn to knowing what is coming next, so they want to understand Revelation. Unfortunately, it isn’t meant to be fully understood until it in unfolded. We should still read and study it because in the first chapter of Revelation it says that whoever does that will be blessed.
