Why can Jesus not simply be a guru or yogi, as Eastern religions define these words?

Jesus always pointed to His Father and in the gospel of John 17 his lengthy prayer to the Father for his disciples is an example of this. In Matthew 6:9-13, he teaches his disciples how to pray. The prayer opens with, “Our Father who art in heaven.” In Matthew 27:46, as he was crucified, he turns to God with a cry of, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” We see no turning inward to God, but a cry to the heavens.
From all this we see that Jesus taught of one God and that was not himself. Rather than us humans being gods, he teaches that we willfully choose our own selfish ends rather than to serve a holy and loving God. -

Some thought he was John the Baptist or Elijah or one of the prophets of old reincarnated or that He was just another prophet. Today, they say the same thing, or they include Him in the long list of “good men” such as Martin Luther King, Ghandhi, or some mystic. But Jesus was more than that. He is God. He is Lord. He is the Messiah. He is the source of our salvation. He is worthy of our worship. He is Wisdom, the Wisdom that created the World and mankind. (1 Corinthians 1:30)
