They are the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering. More simply put, suffering exists; it has a cause; it has an end; and it has a cause to bring about its end.

Because they provide an explanation for suffering and provide a moral framework to deal with it.

It’s something they can meditate on to help them keep their minds off the pain.

I think it gives them something to do, or focus on instead of focusing on suffering.

Through the Noble, we can abandon our desires and suffering.
