Why do you think Jesus indicated that we shouldn’t “broadcast” when we are fasting to others?

Jesus wants us to remain humble like Him. We are saying “Look at me, look at how holy and special I am” when we make our fasting obvious; this feeds our pride instead of our bellies, and a full ego will be the only good that comes from a fast like that.

Jesus wants fasting to be about my personal relationship with God and a desire to grow closer to Him. To “broadcast” fasting transfers the focus on me or my glory rather than God’s.

Only hypocrites show off prayers. When we pray and fast it is for God to know, not others. We need always to be humble in the Lord.

Because it is a time between us and God, like a couple spending time together alone to bond.
