Why do you think people often struggle with a feeling of helplessness after the loss of a relationship?

Most times it is hard learning to live separate from someone or something that has served as a pillar or rock for you in the past. Sometimes broken relationships rip the very strength from a person. Other times you may feel like you let a “good one go” and you may be convinced that you will never find another so great. Suffering a loss can sometimes cause a person to feel like a loser and if you are not being encouraged to feel any differently the helplessness will soon kick in.

You don’t understand why. I had this feeling when my son became estranged from me. I thought I had done it right and introduced him to God. And I didn’t understand why this would happen.

The person is overly attached or dependent in many ways on the other party in the relationship.

I cannot speak for others, but in my past experiences where i struggled with the loss of a relationship it became a “blame game” – I blamed myself for the relationship failures. Taking time to contemplate what the relationship taught me is a good way to evaluate the loss connection.
