Why does it matter what teachers believe?

What I believe about God, how He created us, and His plan for living affects my thoughts, words, and actions every day. Students pick up on how we make them feel, not just the content we want them to absorb. My heart’s desire is for them each to “walk worthy of the name of Christ”, be prepared to live in an ungodly world as lights in the darkness, and to demonstrate the fruits of the Spirit. If I don’t have these same goals for myself, how will they pick them up?

What teachers believe matters because that is reflected in their life. Their actions will follow their thoughts. If the teachers know how much God loves children and what Jesus Christ did on the cross for all of us, the teacher will have more than a paying job, and will love the children and care for them.

It matters what a teacher believes because what you believe influences your actions and behavior in the world. If you believe that God created everything and everyone, and He said it was good, then your perspective changes on how you would view a child or their behavior. As a Christian educator I am able to ask God for the wisdom and calm to teach and guide His children.

Teachers are models and examples of their beliefs and philosophy. Students observe the way teachers respond to various situations and choose to conduct their courses. Students will absorb the philosophy of their teachers more readily than any philosophy they might read in a textbook.

Teachers have an impact on the students in their classroom. Even when the teacher does not publicly declare their beliefs in the classroom, they always come across through their actions and how they carry themselves.
