A teacher’s beliefs about the Bible, the student, his/her responsibilities to the ‘calling,” and the value of education itself, will influence what one teaches and how one teaches.

Why does it matter? I have seen education students come and go throughout my years as a special education paraprofessional. Many of them, sadly, found that they truly did not believe in the value of what they were doing. I saw several drop out of the student teaching or clinicals before completing them. You have to know what you believe and why. What is fueling what you believe? Is it selfish ambition? Is it God-given? Is it your passion? If you cannot pin-point exactly what and why you believe, you will not get far as an educator. It was in the face of changing my perspective to looking at what I was doing from an eternal perspective that I realized it was time to stop running from what God wanted me to do for Him. 25 years of avoiding being a teacher because I was terrified of being judged according to James 3:1 was instantly changed to seeing the challenge and love within the statement. For those of us who step up and take that challenge on, we see this as a reminder that what we teach must be TRUTH rather than the common ideas of the populace. Know Who has given you the desire to teach, know why you are called to teach. Oh, and be open to wherever He is going to place you to teach. I have learned this over the past semester as I went from dreading even thinking about being in a middle school classroom to craving it. God will work through you, challenge you, and change you for the good of His plans. You will not regret it. But, the underlying foundation is to know what you believe and to practice and share it!

No matter how hard you try, you can not hide your beliefs while teaching. It shows what books you pick out to read, to the curriculum you teach. It also shows through you personally.

Teacher's beliefs shape the way they teach students. If they aren't firm in their beliefs it will be hard to guide students when they have been led astray by the world or are working on shaping their own beliefs.
