It matters what teachers believe because we are one of the main ones who share knowledge in people’s lives. We are still growing and learning just as our students are doing. What I say to a child can have eternal effects. I want to make sure that what I believe is based on the foundation of God’s Word and share with my students that, while I do know things and am teaching them, I am still a work in progress myself. I can teach them that we can do hard things together with Christ being our strength. Students are affected deeply by things we say and do. I want to make sure what I do is honoring and pleasing to the Lord.

It matters because it is our calling and our responsibility, as Christian educators, to pass down our Christian philosophy-we are the living, breathing philosophy!

Teaching is a spiritual gift and a calling from God. We are accountable to Him for not just what we pass on to the next generation but also how our lives represent our belief system. It’s possible to espouse beliefs yet not behave accordingly. Students see this hypocrisy and our influence on them is undermined. If we teach them to be kind, even to mean kids, yet we treat them harshly and hold a grudge, the power of our teaching is diminished. Students will follow more closely how we act than what we speak. Our consistently godly example will build a strong foundation of future leaders full of God’s wisdom and character.

The teacher is the living, breathing philosophy. The responsibility of Christian educators is to pass down their Christian philosophy.

It matters because we will live out our beliefs, whether they are what we say they are or not.
