Why does it matter what teachers believe?

It matters what the teachers believe because we have such an influence on our students. It matters what we believe because it is our job to invest in these kids. We better be sure we are investing the right things into them. They will remember us forever, for the bad or the good. It matters.

That which lies within our heart, proceeds out of our mouth. So, if our lives are a living, breathing example of Jesus Christ, our foundational beliefs will be apparent through daily living. Certainly, we are not infallible and in those situations, we are given an opportunity to teach in the moment. We understand that people are imperfect and it is the very reason we need the perfect love of God. He offers grace in our faltering when we come before the Lord and acknowledge our own shortcomings. If we are teaching grace, it becomes easier to offer grace because we believe in the love and Grace of Jesus Christ. If we believe we ought to love one another as Christ loved us, it becomes a habit to love our students and it will show through in our actions. If we believe Jesus works in our very lives, we get to share exactly how Jesus was able to work through our lives in a situation or circumstance. Students need to see our faith put into practice, so it very much matters what we believe. Even as I have also taught in public school, I may not be able to speak about Jesus as openly as a Christian school, but my students, their families and coworkers will know I am a Christian by my love. I try to exemplify the fruit of the Spirit in my life and classroom, in my home with my own children… I can’t go into a classroom and just teach my students, I have to live out my faith and my beliefs at home and school or my life will not appear real or reflective of what I truly believe.

It matters what teacher’s believe because we are living philosophy — we are responsible for passing down our philosophy to future generations.

We are a huge example before our students. What we believe in will positively or negatively impact our students.

The way that we answer students, give advice, or direct students, impacts students and their futures. We can change the way they see God, if we are setting a good example and living out His truths.
