I’ve noticed more than ever that the students are sponges – they are at a crucial point of their lives and asking major questions that will influence them for the rest of their lives. Whoever gives them the insights will shape their lives.

What we believe matters because according to Luke 6:45 from the abundance of our hearts our mouth speaks. If our philosophy is based on God’s word we will transmit God’s wisdom to our students.

It matters because it comes out in the person that we are, the things we say and the way we teach. And even more importantly, as Christians, it is one of the ways that we pass on our love for our Lord.

What teachers believe is vital because it is our responsibility to pass on truth that is found in God’s Word. We should not just be hearers of God’s Word but also doers as well.

Our actions and words are a direct reflection of our beliefs. If I don’t have a healthy, growing relationship with Christ, my actions and words will reflect that and vice versa. Students need to see an authentic faith lived out in front of them. They know when they are not truly cared about and can see when a teacher is just showing up out of obligation. They ideally will see in their teacher someone who loves to learn, who desires what is best for their students, who cares about their spiritual walk and not just about covering all of the standards. They need to see above all else, someone who loves Jesus and tries to speak and act in a way that is honoring to Him.
