Why does it matter what teachers believe?

It matters what teachers believe because you model what you believe to your students. Teachers are influential in the good, the bad, and the ugly. Therefore, we need to be extremely careful of what we model.

It matters greatly if we believe that every thought and action directly stems from our beliefs. It is easy to be indifferent in our current culture. It is much harder to believe in something greater and express our lives through Him.

As a teacher you are in front of your students showing what you believe in and how that affects your life. They say that more is caught then taught. Students are watching how you act and behave and taking that into account when they do their assignments. If you do not believe in your students or respect them, they know and that will color how they feel about the subject and their school. It is important to show your students how your beliefs affect you and your daily life and how you interact with them.

It matters what educators believe. Parents choosing Christian Education for their child/children are doing so because they recognize, and are obeying scriptures such as Deuteronomy chapter 6, and Proverbs 22:6. They are seeking to instill the Truth of God’s Word into their children. Christian Educators are one piece of that puzzle. Our Biblical Worldview, our philosophy matters. We are supporting the family as a whole, not only through meeting academic needs, but spiritual needs as well.

We act out what we believe. Whether we know it or not. Whether we want to or not. Sometimes I get frustrated when a lesson does not go well. Then I realize that I believed all of my planning and knowledge would generate a great lesson. How many times does God need to remind me that He is in control and “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.” Proverbs 19:21. When this verse is etched in my heart, I will no longer need to be frustrated. It seems to me that it is better for me and my students that I believe what the Bible has to say regarding how I should live my life and it is worth my time to keep aligning my steps with it’s guidance.
