Why is dependence on God in prayer so important?

We need to believe in God and want to be close to him for payer to work.

Prayer requires our faith in God to do what only he can do in our situations. If we could do it ourselves then we would not need God.

Being dependent on God forces us to rely on Him instead of doing things our way or by ourselves. If we are dependent on someone, we try to make them happy so that they will continue taking care of us. Although God will care for us whether we make Him happy or not, there are greater blessings that He can give us if we are acting in accordance with His will, and we are more likely to do that if we are dependent on Him.

We pray and ask of God who will always answer us in prayer according to His Holy Will as He will grant that which is best for us when we depend on Him to do so.
