Discipleship is an essential part of Christian education because the children or young people become Jesus’ hands and feet in this world. By them interacting with the community and the world at large, they know the people’s needs and they fulfill the Christian’s commission to serve others just as Christ came to serve us. Through discipleship, students can share the love of Christ and give to others. As Jesus said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.

The goal of Christian education is to nurture students in faith to become rooted in Christ. Discipleship is coming alongside of believers and encouraging and educating and strengthening them in the faith. This should be occurring in Christian schools through intentional relationships and biblically integrated courses.

Discipleship is an essential part of Christian education because hopefully at a Christian school the students are learning to be and act like Christ. To be His hands and feet to the fallen world. The main if not only way to learn this is through discipleship; intentional and planned discipleship.

Discipleship is (should be) one of the main goals of Christian Education! We should not only be concerned that our students are getting the information we are teaching, but that they are developing their own Christian, Biblical worldview. Making sure they are learning information is important, but seeing them take ownership of their faith is far more critical. This is the difference that should exist in Christian Education; seeing students grow in their desire and ability to follow Jesus. Otherwise, there is no difference.

The Educator should be taking every opportunity to direct students to more Christ-Centered lives. Missions is a wonderful way to disciple students. It allows them to actually be the hands and feet of Christ and take active part in the churches work. It also, allow students the chance to understand that they have a God-ordained purpose and it may help them better fulfill that purpose.
