We lead the students with our actions. They will follow us as we follow Christ. We need to do actions that show we are the hands and feet of Jesus.

Discipleship is essential because that is one of the foundational truths that Jesus said we are to do. He said to go make disciples.(Matthew 28:19)

As an educator we are taught to model what we are teaching. Jesus modelled for his disciples so that they could in turn model for those they mentored and discipled and the early church grew exponentially. If I believe in the Lord with all my heart, mind, and soul, then I have the most amazing jewel in my grasp and wish to share that precious wisdom that others might share my joy. I have a whole classroom at a time to model for and mentor, to disciple. In turn, those students can model and mentor in turn to another demographic and more souls get to experience true joy.
There used to be an old hair product commercial on TV that said the person told two friends about the product and then they told to friends etc. Then everyone has pearls instead of worldly disillusionment.

Education is not to be done in isolation. We are meant to sharpen and challenge one another. We are meant to encourage one another. Learning how do these things is a vital part of a student’s education. Caring for the soul as well as the mind will only make the knowledge stick and become more real. To learn about serving vs. going and serving is the difference between a lifelong skill vs. an academic exercise.

Discipleship is essential to our job as Christian educators. Discipleship is purely helping others to follow Christ. We should do this in many different ways in the school. One of the difficult things we have to do is balance discipleship between the church, the home, and the school. It can be hard to know who has what responsibility and how to work together.
