Discipleship is an essential part of Christian education because our students need to learn how to care for others as Jesus showed us his love and compassion.

Because “when we are able to minister and make a difference, it changes us.” Private schools often have many entitled kids because it takes a lot of money to attend. So, our efforts to teach and do outreach should be even greater.

As Christian educators, we are called by Christ in the Great Commission to make disciples, teaching all that he’s taught us. As teachers, we lead by example in the classroom because otherwise we are no different than educators at a non-christian school.

Making disciples is God’s command to all believers. In my role as an educator I have an incredible opportunity to disciple around 20 students each year. I view discipleship as modeling Christ like behavior and giving opportunities for my students to practice those behaviors. This is essential because we are molding student’s hearts, training them to become more and more like Christ. We are showing students how to be light in a dark world. This impact will hopefully have the “ripple effect” so that our faith continues to be passed down from generation to generation.

Jesus has called us to be disciples and make disciples. It is an important function in our role as an educator. Teaching and modeling discipleship builds the self-esteem of our students while impacting the world for Christ.
