Discipleship is essential to Christian life. It makes sense that as Christian educators, we would be holistic in our approach to Christian Education by including discipleship. And I like some of the examples that were given of service as discipleship. I guess I never thought of service as discipleship or mentoring but it makes perfect sense. I usually think of discipleship as teaching someone the Bible but it is lovely to help someone live out their faith in service. However, I can see how it would be easy to create a program and forget the purpose. Service for the sake of service is not discipleship. But service combined with sharing the gospel is definitely discipleship.

Discipleship is an essential part of Christian education because students need to experience it first hand. They need to be the hands, feet and voice of Jesus. I think we need to be careful to make sure students see how important it is to minister to others. I am so blessed I have to step back and examine the needs of others myself. I try to teach Love God, Love others.

Discipleship is an essential part of Christian education because it is an outgrowth of a teachers belief in the centrality of scripture in the classroom. If all a teacher does is teacher scripture without a relational connect they are doing a disservice to their students. It is also an essential part of Christian education because of the amount of time a teacher spends with a student. So, while discipleship is the responsibility of the parent, teachers play a vital role because of the sheer time they spend with them.

Discipleship is an essential part of Christian education because the biggest role we have is to help these young souls work towards heaven. While we know we are not saved by works, we also know that faith without works is dead. We must teach the children how to willingly disciple and serve because they want to model what Jesus did and bring him glory by serving others. I believe it should be the norm in a child’s life for them to see and help parents, neighbors, and teachers in serving others.

You have to discipleship baby Christians to move them from milk to meat. The deeper the relationship with God the more meat there is. The deeper the relationship the deeper the understanding of his word. It is about showing students how to care for others around them. We have to demonstrate the Good Samaritan parable. Words with out action holds no meaning to students.
