Discipleship is definitely an essential part of Christian education. The reasons parents entrust their students to us is so that we will teach them from a biblical worldview, and help them know the character of God and the truth of His word. Discipleship in education helps shape the eternal perspective of the student, grow them in their understanding of their Lord and Savior, aids in developing a Godly character, and helps them to be others focused rather than self focused.

Discipleship is an essential part of Christian education because it is a way for students to show us what they are learning. I love when our older students pair up with our younger students to teach them Bible stories. It is also wonderful to see different grade levels lead Chapel on Fridays.

Discipleship is considered an essential part of Christian education for several reasons:

    1. Spiritual Formation:

      • Discipleship focuses on the spiritual formation of individuals, helping them grow in their understanding of the Christian faith, values, and principles. Christian education seeks to nurture a deep and personal relationship with God, fostering spiritual growth and maturity.
    2. Integration of Faith and Learning:

      • Christian education aims to integrate faith into all aspects of life, including academic subjects. Discipleship helps students see the connection between their faith and the knowledge they acquire, promoting a holistic worldview that encompasses both spiritual and intellectual development.
    3. Modeling Christ-Like Character:

      • Discipleship emphasizes the development of Christ-like character traits such as love, kindness, humility, and forgiveness. Christian education seeks to cultivate a community where these virtues are modeled by teachers and administrators, providing a positive example for students to follow.
    4. Moral and Ethical Foundations:

      • Discipleship plays a crucial role in establishing moral and ethical foundations based on biblical principles. Christian education aims to guide students in making ethical decisions and living in accordance with Christian values in all aspects of life.
    5. Service and Social Responsibility:

      • Discipleship encourages a sense of service and social responsibility. Christian education promotes the idea that faith is lived out through love and service to others. Students are encouraged to apply their faith by actively participating in community service and addressing social issues from a Christian perspective.
    6. Preparation for Christian Leadership:

      • Discipleship equips individuals for Christian leadership roles. Christian education seeks to develop leaders who can make a positive impact on society while upholding Christian values. Discipleship fosters qualities such as humility, servant leadership, and a commitment to justice.
    7. Eternal Perspective:

      • Discipleship helps individuals develop an eternal perspective, understanding that their identity and purpose extend beyond this earthly life. Christian education seeks to instill a sense of hope and purpose rooted in the Christian narrative of salvation.
    8. Faith Integration in Daily Life:

      • Discipleship encourages the integration of faith into daily life. Christian education seeks to empower students to live out their faith not only within the confines of a church setting but also in their families, workplaces, and communities.

In essence, discipleship within Christian education is about nurturing students in the Christian faith, guiding them in applying biblical principles to every aspect of life, and preparing them to be faithful followers of Christ in a diverse and challenging world.

It is another way for us to come alongside parents and our brothers and sisters in Christ as well as show God’s love to people.

Discipleship provides the environment where answers to life’s questions can be explored within the trusted confines of a mentor/learner relationship. Where there is trust built, worldviews can be shaped. Christian education must include this to allow student growth in MORE THAN just our certified content area.
