I visit students who have landed themselves in the criminal justice system. This is a time when they are at a very low point in life. Schooling is sporadic in this system, disorganized, and on the back burner. It's also a time when kids ask deep questions about God, about themselves, how did they get here and how the heck are they going to survive. They are experiencing issues (most of which are brought upon them by parents, drugs, and lifelong trauma) which most adults have never come close to knowing. Truth and lies, death and life, real and unreal, relevant and irrelevant all start crashing in. Ministering to students in these most factual situations has helped me understand that the many "truths" that the world offers are devastating to lives and souls. Somehow, though, by God's arrangement, meeting the truth of Scripture brings a calm and a steadiness into a young person's life. No solution to the predicament, no guarantee for tomorrow's quick release from pressure. but a hope and freedom that has not been heard before. Thank God for what grounding I have myself, and opportunity to share. In truth, I think many in Christian schools.teachers and students, are a bit undereducated in the "real lives" of the rest of the world.

Students will ask the hard questions. How do we know God exists? What is the nature of the universe? We need to be prepared with our biblical worldview and guide the students to scripture for the truth. We will also be challenged throughout our lives by people questioning faith. It is our duty to, not argue, but help guide them to the truth.

Students will come to us with questions that they may not ask others. By being prepared with your Biblical worldview or truth, your answers will help students as they examine these questions. By having answers ready that Biblically point back to God, you are re-directing them back towards God’s Word to find truth. If we are not prepared, they will go to peers and or the internet in search of truth and may be quickly deceived.

Only when we as educators have a solid foundation of truth and biblical answers to the questions asked by metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology, will we be able to lead students in a biblical worldview as we teach them. If we are unsure ourselves, we will sow seeds of doubt and confusion in our students.

It is important to know because at some point in time our students will ask. We need to be able to have an answer for them as well as demonstrate it.
