It is important to know my answers to the questions posed by metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology as a Christian educator because I am walking along with my students for a time and I can be an influence on their eternal decision to accept God’s grace. If I know my answers to these questions I am better prepared to share with and care for my students, valuing them as God’s creation and stewarding them in their education, building them up to be fellow citizens of the body of Christ.

Taking time to think deeply about Christian answers to the questions raised in metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology further grounds the educator in her faith and prepares her to answer questions that students will have. Thinking about these concepts helps the educator to focus on major, eternal concepts to include in the classroom and to be intentional about infusing them into the curriculum.

You can’t lead where you haven’t gone. The big questions asked in these areas of philosophy, are questions every person asks. If you have solidified in your own heart and mind the answers to these questions, you cannot help students answer them. You will be a teacher driven with the wind a tossed yourself, and ineffective in helping students find a solid footing for themselves.

Christian educations should know the answers to the questions asked so that they have a framework of understanding. Yes, we have our own philosophies but not everyone we come into contact with will have the same viewpoint. What we as Christians can do is lead those individuals to the scriptures.

It is important for the Christian educator to know her answers to the questions asked by metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology because they form the foundation of a biblical worldview. This is the framework within which they will live and express their call as educators to the glory of the Father in the Son, Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
