Why is it important for the Christian educator to know his/her answers to the questions asked by metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology?

These three fields are vast in their scope. Each of these has many implications for the educational process. What the teacher views as truly real will help establish what they want to communicate. Epistemology will help the teacher in their pedagogical decisions. Axiology provides a standard for what is worth teaching and how to get others excited about those same values.

It is important for Christian educators to know the answers to these concepts because they will be able to value on a biblical worldview the existence of God, that God is above and beyond nature and the truth of scripture. As Christian educators, these will help us to educate students the values of God, the truth and the capacity to see them grow spiritually.

It is important for Christian educators to know their answers to the questions asked by metaphysics, epistemology, and axiology … because they are good questions! We are beings in a pursuit of importance/value/impact and these are the hard questions that surface in that journey. All truth is God’s truth, so as we discover new things in science, we can attribute them to God. The same is true as we ask the hard questions. It all points back to the God of the Bible!

It is absolutely key for an educator to know their answers to these questions as the foundation of their own understanding. No educator can teach or facilitate understanding and apologetics if they don’t understand them or if they don’t agree with them. Not one of my peers who believe they evolved can clearly teach Creationist apologetics and do not help students source sites like Creation Ministries etc. where there are scientific opponents to the evolutionary worldview. Our students are children of God, not pond-scum, nor are they related to chimps etc. It is important in the field of education to understand the value of our students and their potential, so if your understanding of what is, isn’t Biblical, we will not be adhering to our calling.
